Ha Long Bay so far ranked ninth Natural Wonder
NewOpenWorld, the organizer of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, announced on its website that
Vietnam's Ha Long Bay is currently ranked 9th of nearly 200 nominated landscapes worldwide.
According to Liberated Saigon Newspaper, of the 200 nominated sites,
Vietnam has two other locations ranked on the NewOpenWorld website, Phong Nha
- Ke Bang (16th) and
Fansipan (19th).
NewOpenWorld is asking all host countries of nominated sites to set up a council to campaign for the selection.
Polls will officially close December 31, 2008.
After the selections are finalized, NewOpenWorld will support host countries of the seven selected wonders to advertise and preserve the sites.
Ha Long Bay was recognized as a world natural heritage site for landscape value in 1994 and geological value in 2000 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
